Detroit inked one of its home-grown stars to a market-setting extension.
On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions locked up one of their best players with a well-earned contract extension. NFL Network's Ian Rapoportthe franchise inked star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension worth over $120 million, with $77 million guaranteed. The deal will make St. Brown the highest-paid receiver in the NFL .
St. Brown amassed 90 catches for 912 yards as a rookie and, in many ways, embodied the gritty attitude Campbell wants his players to exhibit. What's more, the wideout has only gotten better since. It was critical for the Lions to get this deal done as soon as possible. St. Brown means a ton to the franchise and the fanbase, so he was always going to be getting a contract extension. The question was merely for how much money. With several other star wideouts expected to sign extensions this season, like Ja'Marr Chase and CeeDee Lamb, the number could have been astronomical.
