The AthleticMartinez, 24, has been the subject of interest from the north London club and he is understood to be the primary defensive target for manager Mikel Arteta.reported earlier this month that a bid in the region of €30 million had already been rejected by the Amsterdam side. Manchester United are also understood to be monitoring the situation.
While the Argentina international has played most of his football as a centre-back, Arsenal believe he could also provide an interesting option at left-back, similar to how Takehiro Tomiyasu is also able to play both positions on the right side of defence. Martinez, who is said to be keen on joining Arteta’s side, can also offer central midfield cover too.
