The new anthology series from Apple TV+ focuses on the immigrant experience

All three had worked on projects that told stories from the immigrant perspective, making them ideal collaborators.season two capsule episode “New York, I Love You,” which focused on the lives of immigrants in New York City. “[Eisenberg] ended up seeing the episode, and he’s like, Oh, my god, that’s a very similar tone,” Yang said. “It was proof that a show with this kind of concept could work.

Apple picked up the show in the period when it was building up mystique by lining up projects by numerous high-profile collaborators, includingIt was a big swing for the new streamer: an anthology series not based on blockbuster I.P. that starred mostly unknown actors . “We took it around to a few other places that hopefully in the next week will regret their decisions tremendously,” Eisenberg quipped.

“We’re not telling stories that Trump plays a large role in because those weren’t really the stories that resonated for us,” Eisenberg said. What matters, he said, is that people watch the show and see immigrants in a new light: “That’s the victory.” Still, the Trump presidency affected the show’s production. For example, after casting Syrian and Libyan actors for the final episode, “The Son,” the producers realized the actors couldn’t enter the United States because of the Muslim travel ban. There’s a dark irony to it, Bearman said, considering the episode revolves around a gay Syrian man seeking asylum in the U.S. so he can live freely.

“The Son” is one of the show’s heavier episodes—though, like the rest of the anthology series, it searches for the weird, funny, romantic, and humanistic moments that weave into a larger tapestry. Pockets of life in corners of America, spots of light in the darkness.

Woman Didn’t Know Progress On Toxic Masculinity Would Turn Boyfriend Into Such A Weepy Little PansyWoman Didn’t Know Progress On Toxic Masculinity Would Turn Boyfriend Into Such A Weepy Little PansyAPPLETON, WI—Expressing disbelief at her romantic partner’s dramatic behavioral shift, local woman Emily Kittleson, 30, told reporters Friday that she had not expected her boyfriend’s attempts to recognize and curtail toxic masculinity would eventually turn him into a “weepy little pansy.” “Christ, I know the dope is trying to be conscious of the effects of his words and actions and to be more open and honest with his emotions, but there’s got to be a limit,” said Kittleson of her boyfriend Shane Magnusen, 31, whose efforts to reject toxic masculinity have begun to irritate her as she claims he has evolved into “a fragile fucking flower about everything” in recent weeks. “Of course I’m happy for social progress and all, but this ineffectual shit is not what I signed up for. Instead of suppressing his emotions about major issues in his life, he cries at sad commercials. Our fights used to be him screaming at me for a few minutes and that was it, not great but not terrible. Then last night, we get into an argument that somehow turns into me nodding and making comforting noises while he talks about his strained relationship with his dad until well after midnight. Like, come on, I don’t have time to indulge this self-centered crap.” Kittleson was also compelled to interrupt her statements twice, groaning and rolling her eyes while responding to text messages from Shane regarding their couples’ therapy appointments later that week.
