Members of the public are being advised to avoid the area
After days of dry, hot weather across the UK, flames can be seen throwing huge plumes of smoke into the air. Pictures posted on social media show the blaze in full force near Brathay Harbour,It comes just days after a warning was issued by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service to be careful with open flames because of the warm weather.
"Be wildfire aware - wildfires can spread and cause irreparable damage and could cost lives. If you see a wildfire, please call 999," they said yesterday. Now, dramatic images on Facebook show the fire with the poster claiming that fire crews are on the way Windemere Cruises issues a warning for people to stay away from the area. In a Tweet they said: "ALL LAKE USERS. Please steer clear of the Brathay/Waterhead area as there is a large fire on the lakeshore. Please take extreme caution.
