A 67-year-old man was killed in his home in Morgan County, Ala., Friday night, officials confirmed. The death is the first fatality confirmed by The Washington Post in Alabama, bringing the death toll to at least 24 people across two states.

The Mississippi towns of Rolling Fork and Silver City — in Sharkey and Humphreys counties, respectively — were hit particularly hard by the tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service. At least 13 people were killed in Sharkey County, according to MEMA. One person died in Morgan County, Ala.

Numerous local and state search-and-rescue teams worked through the night in hope of finding residents affected by a tornado that left more than 100 miles of damage, the agency said.a warning for the weekend, noting that “severe thunderstorms” were possible from far east Texas and central Louisiana into southern and central Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia on Sunday. It added that “large hail, damaging gusts and a couple tornadoes appear possible.
