He was the unexpected answer to the problem Liverpool took more than two decades to solve. But now Andy Robertson is approaching a pivotal moment in his celebrated Anfield career. It was seven years ago today when, with little fanfare, Robertson arrived at Anfield from Hull City for a fee of £10million as the latest attempt by the Reds to resolve their infamous issues at left-back.
There has also been the need in the last two seasons to forge a relationship down the left flank with Luis Diaz, a different kind of winger compared to Sadio Mane with whom Robertson had an almost telepathic understanding. In fairness, on his return to full fitness Robertson was one of Liverpool's better performers during the difficult closing weeks of last term, scoring in successive Premier League games against West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.
