Celebrations kicked off around the world Friday to commemorate International Women's Day.
Members of the Monroe County Legislature celebrated International Women's Day Friday, March 8, 2024. Communities gathered across the country to honor the achievements of women throughout history.Close to home, the Monroe County Legislature saluted women in the public service, discussing motivations and achievements and empowering women to pursue their goals.
“International Women’s Day is not just a celebration," says Monroe County Legislator Rose Bonnick. "It’s a call to action to ensure every girl has the opportunity to thrive and lead in a more equitable and inclusive world." “Its a time to remember the tenacious women that opened doors for subsequent generations, like the pioneering,” said Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo. “While much has been achieved, it is clear much more work remains combating domestic violence, systemic pay disparities, and growing threats to women’s reproductive freedoms.”
"I am humbled by the women I meet in the streets of Rochester everyday doing their work," says Bonnick. "I am hopeful for a future that would be led by the young women that we are inspiring."
