NHL: Timo Meier injured in third period of San Jose Sharks’ win over Calgary Flames
CALGARY, Alberta — Logan Couture and Alexander Barabanov scored in a 28-second span in the third period, rallying the San Jose Sharks to a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.Johnny Gaudreau, Dillon Dube, and Mikael Backlund scored for Calgary , which lost at home in regulation for just the second time in 19 games . Matthew Tkachuk had a pair of assists.
After allowing a pair of early goals, Sharks goaltender James Reimer settled in, finishing with 28 stops. He improved to 17-13-6.Down 3-2 after 40 minutes, San Jose tied it 11:07 into the third when Tomas Hertl worked the puck out front where Barabanov was wide open and he snapped a shot inside the post for his 10th goal.
Meier was injured with under seven minutes to go in the third period after a collision along the end boards with Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson. Meier skated away from the check but had trouble putting any weight on his left foot as the left the ice and later the Sharks’ bench. The Flames took a 3-1 lead 4:08 into the second when Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson turned the puck over to Gaudreau. On the ensuing two-on-one, Gaudreau set up Backlund, who slipped the puck through Reimer’s pads with a backhand shot.
