London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, has announced ambitious plans to pedestrianize Oxford Street, aiming to transform the iconic shopping destination into a “beautiful public space” and boost economic activity. The plans, supported by the new Labour government, would see Mr. Khan designate a Mayoral Development Area, granting his office planning powers to expedite the pedestrianization process.
