Julian Assange arrested at Ecuadorian Embassy in London, taken into police custody

London police arrested WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on Thursday at the embassy of Ecuador in London.

Police said officers were invited to the embassy to execute a warrant on behalf of the Westminster Magistrates' Court after the Ecuadorian government withdrawal of asylum. Assange, 47, took refuge in the embassy in London 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden for questioning over rape allegations. He pressed his case in local and international tribunals on human-rights ground, but both ruled against him.
