London’s Luxury Hotel Bars Shake It Up
London’s luxury hotel bars are renowned around the world, setting the standard for fine service in opulent settings, backed by strong drinks such as classic martinis with tableside preparation.
Dandelyan was ranked as the No. 1 bar in the world according to World’s 50 Best Bars, an annual list voted on by industry members and journalists that’s considered the most legitimate global bar ratings platform, and took home numerous other honors and accolades. Then it closed down and rejiggered its operations, walking away while on top. It reemerged in 2019 as Lyaness in what is now Sea Containers London.
This next-generation approach has been so successful that it’s flipped the script at some of the old-school spots, too. Serving as a regular haunt and local go-to is the new goal, as opposed to settings so idealized they risk becoming either stagnant and stuck in time, or intimidating and standoffish. “I want my guests to feel like the bar is an extension of their home,” says Sophie Bratt, bar manager at the Nobu Hotel London Portman Square.
