The restaurant closed suddenly last October

The new owner of a long-established Nottingham restaurant is promising authentic Thai home cooking - with a surprise British classic thrown in for good measure. Food lovers can spice up their taste buds with traditional starters, soups, curries and stir-fries - but the menu isn't just devoted to heat.

Onto mains, diners have seven curries to choose from including green and red curries, massaman and jungle curry, each with nine options from duck and beef to sea bass and vegetarian. Stir-fries come with garlic and black pepper sauce, sweet and sour, or oyster sauce. Prices range from £8.50 to £13.50 for a main dish.

There are no plans to give Royal Thai, the purple-fronted restaurant in Mansfield Road, a new name. Sirintra said: "It's been here many years and that's why I don't want to change the name." But there is one small concession, the Royal Thai's menu is now subtitled Dao's Kitchen in brackets. "When I was nine or ten I started making papaya salad to feed my sister when we finished school and we were hungry. I love cooking and serving people. I love to look after people. I want people to come and enjoy dinner. This little place is easy for me to run as I used to run a big pub before."

Food is served throughout the day from 11.30am to 11.30pm. She said: "It's a long day but when people are hungry they can come any time. I want to be different from other restaurants because they close at lunchtime so if you are hungry at 4pm you can come here.
