The store had reopened Friday after being closed due to the coronavirus outbreak. But it closed its doors Saturday because of George Floyd protests.
“It’s going to be like the Watts riots,” one witness said. “I wasn’t really alive for it, but I was alive for this one. I’ll tell my kids and family members what happened.”
Besides shoes and clothes, people stole three televisions off the wall. They even stole the ice cube trays from the freezer.He estimated losses totaling $200,000. “We were like, OK, things are looking up,” he said. “And then it’s like, damn, we just got hit. The timing — we’re barely getting over the virus. It hurts so bad. And then to deal with this?“If they say it’s safe to open back up in two days, it’s like: What are we going to sell?”
