LSU sent a loud message to the College Football Playoff committee — they want the No. 1 seed.
Lafayette Daily AdvertiserATLANTA — LSU won the Southeastern Conference championship game Saturday, and they did it with style — as in points — with a 37-10 victory over No. 4 Georgia in front of 71,000 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
"This is a win for the whole organization, for the state of Louisiana, and for LSU, and everybody that played in the purple and gold," LSU coach Ed Orgeron said."They had a look in their eye today of focus and winning and determination." The Tigers will be in the playoff for the first time since the current final four format began in the 2014 season.The Tigers took a 37-10 lead with 7:41 to go on a 50-yard field goal by Cade York, which marked his 13th point of the game, an SEC title game record. He had three field goals in all and four extra points.
Not needing a Heisman Trophy moment as he is expected to win in a landslide Saturday, Burrow did add a trick to his repertoire. LSU's high-powered offense was only in a trot in the first half as Georgia held it to its second-lowest point total of the season after the opening two quarters with 17 points. The Tigers were tied with Auburn, 10-10, before winning, 23-20. Burrow broke the SEC record for touchdown passes in a season on the play with his 45th. Missouri's Drew Lock held the previous record at 44 since 2017. Chase's touchdown was his 18th of the season, which tied the SEC receiving touchdowns record held by Florida wide receiver Reidel Anthony since 1996.
