Dr Zeshan Ali has been suspended for from treating patients for nine months
A family GP has been suspended after making 'casatrophic errors in judgement' - which he initially tried to cover up.
However, a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester banned Ali from treating patients for nine months after he was found guilty of serious professional misconduct. It is not yet clear whether any patients actually suffered any harm as a direct result of Ali's actions. ''I think some of these patients should really be seen by the regular GP there who knows these patients on a day-day basis. I have never had this problem at other GP surgeries I have done locums for. I have made telephone calls to patients when requested to and it is rather unfortunate the patients have missed their calls. I hope I can continue to provide a good quality of service.
''After over running my surgery seeing patients face to face and running over time I chose the wrong decision to make false documentation and rush off to my family emergency that afternoon without informing the staff that day. It was foolish of me and irresponsible behaviour to do what I did that day.
Ali added: ''I left the surgery on one of the occasions after receiving a call notifying me a family member was unwell. After seeing this family member, I then travelled to an afternoon surgery elsewhere. ''Appointments with GPs are the first point of contact for the public and failure to conduct those appointments can result in serious missed opportunities including urgent referrals to secondary care, Accident and Emergency, or important safety netting advice.
