Marvel Studios did consider making M'Baku or Nakia the new Black Panther in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 and Marvel's decision to not recast T'Challa left the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a massive hole to fill. The future of the Black Panther mantle was one of the biggest questions during the sequel's development. This led to various theories about who Black Panther 2 could have take over the mantle.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY As part of a new interview with Rolling Stone, it has been confirmed that Winston Duke's M'Baku and Lupita Nyong'o's Nakia were considered to be the MCU's new Black Panther. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever writer Joe Robert Cole spoke to the outlet at length about the sequel, and the topic of conversation eventually turned to the mantle.
Shuri being the MCU's new Black Panther fit perfectly with Black Panther 2's story. The movie was able to take her on a journey through grief of thinking that the mantle should never come back to her understanding that she needed to take on that responsibility to protect Wakanda.
Will M'Baku Or Nakia Ever Become The MCU's Black Panther? M'Baku and Nakia could still become Black Panther in the future potentially. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's ending makes M'Baku the king of Wakanda, while Nakia is living in Haiti with her and T'Challa's son Toussaint. The movie made a point of showing that Shuri regrew the heart-shaped herb, allowing others to become Black Panther.
