Police say they are unsure when the road will reopen
Police have closed a section of the M8 motorway as they respond to 'concern for a person' in the area.
The response is understood to relate to concern for a person on the carriageway. Traffic data on Google Maps suggests that tailbacks more than two miles long are building on the westbound carriageway, which is the focus of police attention. Some motorists appeared to try to beat the traffic by driving on the hard shoulder - despite the lane being used by emergency services responding to the incident. Another driver said: "I've been sat here for about 30 minutes. Crazy idiots all have the hard shoulder blocked - now they're all trying to cut off the motorway."
A spokesperson for the force told the Record: "It is a concern for person, and the road is now currently closed in both directions. There isn't anything further to add."
