Left-hander, saying he's as prepared as ever, throws three scoreless innings in second spring game
“I think we’re getting there,” Gore said Wednesday after striking out five and allowing one hit in three innings at the start of a 3-0 Cactus League victory over the Angels. “We’re not there yet. But we’re getting closer. We’re getting more out of my body and out of my talent. I think we’re starting to do that. We have a long way to go still. I think there still some things that can be better, but I definitely think we’re starting to put everything together.
Gore, still just 23 years old, spent nearly a week in San Diego working with new Padres pitching coach Ruben Niebla in November and came to spring training showing the Padres he had put to good use all the input he received. “I just feel really feel prepared,” Gore said. “There’s a lot of work that I had to do to get here and other people did with me. So, it’s just been a lot of time and effort from me, from everybody here. And I just feel prepared going in, which is bringing some confidence to the mound.”
“They’re all starting to come together, but you’ve got to start with the command,” Gore said. “The command opens everything else up.”
