The storm remains a Category 3 storm and is expected to strengthen.
The 2 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center showed maximum sustained winds are at 115 mph with higher gusts.
NHC said Fiona is moving toward the north-northwest near 9 mph and the northwestward motion will continue through tonight, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest and to the north on Wednesday.Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles and hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the center.The system will stay well east of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia, but swells from the hurricane will impact the beaches by midweek.
