The duck is receiving veterinary care after a little girl found the animal with a dart arrow lodged in its neck.
A mallard duck is lucky to be alive after a close call with an arrow, thanks to some local wildlife veterinarians.
On Sunday, March 26, Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach received a mallard duck that had been shot with a dart arrow through its neck. The injured bird was found at Kaiser Elementary School by Costa Mesa residents and brought to local animal control officers, who transported the bird to the specialists at the care center, according to executive director Debbie McGuire.
Doctors acted quickly to assess the bird, perform X-rays, and remove the arrow. The bird’s jaw and cheekbone were severely injured, but the arrow did not penetrate its trachea or fracture any bones.Related Articles
