Streets in Port Elphinstone, Aberdeenshire, were blockaded for several hours while police engaged in what is understood to have been a stand-off.

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with an alleged weapons incident on the streets of a quiet village. Officers, including specialist armed response units, were called to an address in Port Elphinstone, immediately south of Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, shortly before 3pm on Wednesday, January 25.

Police have not commented on the type of weapon allegedly being used. But the force confirmed a man had been arrested. Armed cops were then seen in nearby Crichie Circle before the incident was resolved. The police investigation remains ongoing.
