A man was walking his dog past a small homeless encampment at Elmont Drive and Pleasant Valley Road around 8 p.m. Monday when he was violently attacked.

Someone hit him on the back of the head, and then they stabbed him with a machete," said a neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous.
On March 7, a man was shot and killed at a camp next to a creek that runs under East Riverside Drive near Pleasant Valley. She told me she saw a gun being waved around at the Elmont and Pleasant Valley camp, hours before Monday’s attack, but when she called police, they just did a drive-by.When the ban was reinstated, Austin implemented a four-phase plan to clean up homeless camps. Within a few months of that plan, many public encampments were cleaned up, but, almost one year later, the tents are back and the city says it is a resource issue.
