A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed inside a home in the New Town neighborhood Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police said they responded to a home on West 2nd Street around 11:20 a.m.When officers arrived, there were several people inside the house, including Layla D. Johnson, 16, who had been shot, according to police.Police initially detained four people to conduct interviews.
Based on evidence and the interviews, police quickly identified Damon Otto Wilson, 27, as the suspect.Multiple law enforcement sources told News4JAX the shooting was believed to be accidental.Marcela joined News4JAX in 2023.
