Manchester City have been dragged into the conversation around Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon
Gordon's future was plunged into uncertainty a few weeks ago as Newcastle scrambled to comply with Premier League financial rules, with reports that the England winger had been offered to Liverpool. The Merseyside club do like the player but did not take Newcastle up on the offer, with plenty of options already in their attack.
The passing of the PSR deadline has not been enough to stop questions over Gordon's future and Premier League champions City have been dragged into the conversation about him. Barring a dramatic U-turn, the Blues won't be buying him though and the Magpies have dismissed City's links to Gordon as "untrue" according to our sister paper in the north east, The Chronicle.
City are yet to make a move in the transfer window beyond getting Stefan Ortega to accept a new contract, but are expected to complete the signing of winger Savio from fellow City Football Group club Troyes. Brazil's unexpected exit in the Copa America has raised hopes that Savio can play more of a part in pre-season under Pep Guardiola.
Savio will look to increase competition on the wings of the City side, pushing Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb for game time. The 20-year-old had been mooted for a loan move back to Girona, where he starred last season, but UEFA rules have ordered there be no transfers between the Blues and their Spanish sister club given both are competing in the Champions League this season.
City are also waiting on news from Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson, with both players the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League this summer. The Blues are not looking to sell either player and cannot afford to go into the new season with a smaller squad given they will play more games, but are aware that they may have to field offers for their stars.
