Pep Guardiola welcomed back not only some returning faces to Manchester City training but also some players with previous injury concerns
Manchester City look to have emerged relatively unscathed from their pre-season friendlies despite a number of injury scares.
Pep Guardiola said that his priority from four fixtures in the United States over the past three weeks was to arrive back in Manchester with no injuries, although there were a number of issues that came up along the way. Ederson didn't train before the final match and sat it out, Erling Haaland suffered niggles against Barcelona, Josh Wilson-Esbrand suffered a hamstring issue against Chelsea and Rico Lewis also pulled up.
City are already expected to be without a number of first-team players for the Community Shield having granted extra time off following international commitments this summer. However, as the majority of the squad trained together for the first time in pre-season on Tuesday there were several welcome sights for Guardiola.READ MORE: Man City scouts may have already found their next Julian Alvarez
Ederson, Lewis and Haaland all took part in training, raising expectations that all three will be available to face United on Saturday. There was no sign of Wilson-Esbrand, although City have welcomed back more defensive options this week; Manu Akanji, Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake have all returned from their holidays ready for the new campaign.
Guardiola has warned that City may get off to a slow start given the summer they have had. A relatively young squad has featured in all four of their friendlies so far because they had more players than any other team at the European Championship.
