Liam Elms admitted having 'a bit of an argument' with his uncle and his drinking buddy
A man accused of dragging his uncle out of his flat by his legs 'like rubbish' and leaving him dying in the street has denied murder - telling a jury 'I loved him'. Liam Elms, 41, allegedly assaulted Paul Lavery by 'throwing around like a rag doll' inside his flat on Eaton Road in West Derby before dragging him feet-first down a flight of stairs, causing his head to repeated bang against the steps.
Police bodycam footage from the night of the incident showed Mr Lavery curled up on the ground outside his flat, wearing just a T-shirt, black trousers and no shoes. He was unable to get up, telling the officers: 'My legs have gone'. Prosecutor Peter Glenser KC told jurors during the prosecution's opening on Monday : 'They immediately assumed he had been the victim of an assault. They set about summoning assistance and tending to Mr Lavery.
