A man is encouraging others to make sure they're receiving all the benefits they're due after realising he was entitled to an extra payment.
PIP is given to those living with an illness, disability or mental health condition, the Mirror reports. It comes in two parts - there's a daily living rate and a mobility rate. "If we want to go to the park with the children, we can afford to get a cup of tea while we are out, whereas before, we would have to walk back home to get one," Phil explained.
Later on, they said Phil could only get £44 every week and to get by, he turned to payday loans, which landed him in £14,000 of debt. Later in 2011, Phil got a letter from the DWP saying they made a mistake with his money and he should have been getting £88 each week. He said: "They sent me a cheque for about £2,000, which was the money they owed me, and that helped to pay off a few debts. Because of that experience, I didn't fully trust the Jobcentre to get the benefits right.
In addition, his partner Fiona learned that she might be entitled to Carer's Allowance. Her application is pending approval and if it gets the green light, then she could get an extra £307 every month.
