The 31-year-old man was shot about 5:42 p.m. Sunday outside in the 5800 block of Bancroft Avenue after getting into an argument with another man, authorities said. He died at the scene.
The suspect fled before police could respond. Investigators did not specify what they believed the argument was about.
The killing is the 71st homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and was the third within a 15-hour period Sunday. Last year at this time police had investigated 77 homicides in the city..
