Route 571 northbound in Manchester, Ocean County, near the intersection with Washington Avenue. A 45-year-old Toms River man died Saturday night after being struck by two vehicles as he crossed Route 571 on foot in Manchester, township police said.
Paul Mount died at the scene of the 10:30 p.m. crash near Washington Avenue, Manchester police said in a statement. Officers responding to a report of a pedestrian struck found Mount in the road, and life-saving medical treatment did not save him. A preliminary investigation found two northbound vehicles struck Mount in the left lane, a Ford Explorer and a Toyota Highlander. The drivers and occupants of those vehicles were not injured.“The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but at this point, crossing the roadway in an area with no crosswalk during nighttime conditions appears to be the primary contributing factor,” police said in the statement.
