Steve Simpson came across the opportunity 'by sheer chance'
Steve Simpson, 46, from Southport, worked in various jobs including as a touring musician and in IT. However, there was one aspect of his hobby that always intrigued him.
Steve said: “He mentioned there were positions available. I put together a CV at the time - a demo of Foley stuff. We lost touch and never heard anything, but I always had a niggling feeling.” With people in this line of work often working by themselves in a studio, the meet-ups are valuable in a profession that can be isolating. They have attracted people just starting out to seasoned professionals working for publishers like Ubisoft, best known for its Assassin’s Creed franchise, and Rocksteady, who developed the Batman Arkham series.
Explaining what his role entails, Steve said: “There’s Foley libraries. Companies themselves share resources. The fun bit is actually recording the Foley stuff. I've been doing that since I was in a band. We’d make audio soundscapes - it was heavy metal, so making scary stuff.
