The court heard the victim rang her sister and asked her to come round and take her nine-year-old son away
A Co Antrim man who assaulted his partner and spat in her sister's face during a domestic incident was jailed on Friday for six months.
Prosecution lawyer Natalie Pinkerton said that as the victim walked into the kitchen he followed and made a number of comments. The court was told that as the victim grabbed the door handle, McLaverty twisted her hand, and pushed her onto the stairs. The victim managed to escape and run out the front door for about two metres before McLaverty grabbed his screaming victim by the head and "dragged back her into the house by her hair''.
Police arrived and noticed the victim was "visibly upset and shaking'', there was blood to the side of her head and she had an injury to her right hand. Officers were handed a black handled knife which was used during the incident.He told a probation officer that he was "going through a bad phase'' at the time, stating the incident was a reaction to the couple splitting up and he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
