Officers tracked down the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop near the 200 block of 17th Street. The man drove off from the traffic stop, Sube said, but officers soon found the car near the 700 block of 8th Street. Police did not identify the man killed Tuesday morning, pending the notification of family members. The officer who opened fire on the man also was not identified.
The officer who shot the suspect has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation, per department protocol. “This is standard procedure designed to ensure the integrity of the investigation while also protecting the officer’s well being after such a traumatic incident,” Sube said.
