Manchester United could have a trump card if they pursue a transfer for Spain and Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi as Erik ten Hag continues to revamp his squad
Manchester United could turn to a Barcelona target if they cannot get a deal for Manuel Ugarte across the line.
Barca boss Xavi has made no secret of his respect for Zubimendi, calling him an “extraordinary defensive midfielder”. Sofyan Amrabat donned the No 4 shirt last season and could yet return with Ten Hag set to discuss making his loan move permanent with Dan Ashworth. The No 3 shirt, meanwhile, has been vacant since Eric Bailly left the club.
However, that stance could be tested if United trigger his release clause. Further transfers could depend on outgoings, with the club having a limited summer transfer budget. United have already spent in excess of £85million on deals for Joshia Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, although they have recouped some of that outlay by selling Mason Greenwood to Marseille.
