Man diagnosed with prostate cancer after 'regularly waking up needing toilet in the night'
A Carlisle man is encouraging all men over the age of 50 to keep an eye out for prostate cancer after he became concerned about his own health when he started waking regularly in the night needing the toilet.
Now, he is encouraging all men over 50 to get the prostates checked. Brian, who is LibDem councillor, said: “I am so glad I bought a cheap and simple PSA test on Amazon – it immediately alerted me to a prostate problem."I had mild symptoms of stomach cramp and waking to urinate in the night. So I bought a home 'Prima Home Test Prostate Test' on Amazon for £8.99. It came the next day. It is a simple home lateral flow test using a prick of blood.
It was after Brian's doctor told him that he would have his prostate checked that he ordered the test. The GP told him the test would take two weeks so he booked this through the NHS. After the at home results, Brian had an MRI scan that confirmed he has prostate cancer. He's still unaware of what type but knows there are options for him.
