Manchester City rising star Ruby Mace will be playing for England U23 squad against Portugal in the European League. Mace, who has been part of the England youth set-up since u17, is determined to protect their unbeaten record. She expects a challenging match against a physical and direct Portugal side, but is excited to play at her home ground with a growing crowd.
Manchester City rising star Ruby Mace also features in Emma Coates’ England U23 squad. The 20-year-old has been part of the England youth set-up since the u17 when she walked onto the pitch on her debut, captaining the national side.
“It’s always good to play at your home ground with the game getting bigger and bigger crowds are coming in, it's really good to see, hopefully, we can get as many people there as possible.” Mace continued: “I think its a really good set-up. I get on with all the girls. Everyone works really hard and especially having the interactions with some of the players from the seniors coming down, it inspires you to also be able to go up as well.
Mace plans to make an impact under Gareth Taylor this season - she's already seen about 30 minutes of Women's Super League action so far in two games yet is not deterred after her successful loan spell at Leicester City last campaign. She said: “It’s hard to make every player happy. Every player wants to play every week but sometimes people don't see the things that you need to meet to play and that's what happened behind the scenes at Man City - what I need to do to play.
