Former midfielder Paul Scholes has expressed concerns about the prospect of United signing Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer. The Reds are determined to add another centre-back to their pool of defensive options ahead of the transfer window closing in just over three weeks time. De Ligt is their top target and they verbally agreed personal terms with him last month.
Scholes, however, is not convinced he is the defender United need. He told The Overlap: "From Bayern Munich, he has not played for them. That has to be a big concern for me, especially when Eric Dier is playing in front of him. I'm not joking though, that is a massive concern for me. When you're bringing players in for £40-£50million just because he played for him three or four years ago. Juventus got rid of him, he wasn't good enough for Juventus.
