Ruffalo took home the honor for best leading actor in a limited series for 'I Know This Much Is True' at the 72nd annual awards on Sunday.
72nd annual Primetime Emmy AwardsThe actor began his acceptance speech by speaking to the significance of his role. "Our story is about family, Ruffalo said."It's a story that's common throughout so much of the United States in the world today. And it asks a big question: How are we going to deal and honor and take care of each other and our most vulnerable people. And we do that with love. And we do that with compassion, and we do that with fighting for them.
Ruffalo then pivoted to speaking about the larger cultural and political moment, calling on Americans to with more privilege"to fight for those who are less privileged and more vulnerable." "We are stronger together when we love each other and respect each other's diversity," he said."Are we going to be a country of hate and division and a country only for certain people? Or are we going to be one of love and strength and fighting for all of us to have the American dream."
