"Part of growing up for me has just been realizing that it is more important to be understood than it is to be liked," Zuckerberg said. The changes announced Monday center on the larger initiatives that Facebook launched in response to the 2016 U.S. election after a Russian manipulation campaign was allowed to operate unchecked. In the aftermath of the election, Zuckerberg said the notion that fake news influenced the election was"Zuckerberg now embraces Facebook's responsibility to prevent foreign manipulation campaigns on its platform.
In addition, Facebook will bolster its political ads archive, which provides information on the advertisements bought by political candidates on the platform. The archive will now features a tracker of ad spending of each presidential candidate, more details on spending at the state and regional levels, and information on whether an ad ran on both Facebook and Instagram.
