The nation's favourite money saving expert Martin Lewis has addressed calls from fans to run in the general election after Rishi Sunak officially confirmed the next one will take place on July 4
Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis is best known for his insightful financial advice and tireless campaigning to help ask politicians the difficult questions the public need to know, about everything from the cost of living to benefit changes. Yet thanks to his celebrity status and widespread public support, his fans have been persistently calling on the financial journalist to run for office in the upcoming general election .
Yet despite the support from his fans online, Martin has quickly shut down any idea of political aspirations as he issued an update to his followers on social media about the chance of him running in the upcoming election. In a tongue in cheek post, the MSE wrote: “Many people have been asking me. And after the today's news, I think its time I told you, formally, that I would like to announce my candidacy, for... early dinner, and an early night. I'm shattered.
This isn’t the first time fans have called upon Martin to stand for election, with the vote of confidence in his judgement having dated back for several years, yet each and every time the subject has arisen he has politely but firmly just down the rumours and continued to focus on what he does best - breaking down money advice into terms everyone can understand.
In fact, earlier this year, during a special panel on the BBC, a group of Conservative, Labour, and undecided voters were asked to share their thoughts with journalist Laura Kuenssberg about who should run the country, with Martin Lewis’ name having cropped up among the candidates that the panel would have loved to see step into Rishi Sunak’s shoes.
However, despite being flattered by the suggestion, Martin made his thoughts on the matter abundantly clear when he took to twitter to thank the panel, before stating he would “rather wire his nipples to electrodes” than become the Prime Minister.
