Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has urged state pensioners to think about shelling out £31 for a chance to significantly increase their pay outs from the Department for Work and Pensions .
In response, Mr Lewis explained: "So £31 would be a part-year payment. Each extra year of pension is worth £300 a year. If she lives 60 years into a pension, £31 would turn into £6,000 inflation-proof."This amount was voluntarily contributed to National Insurance, BirminghamLive reports. Mr Lewis called this strategy as "the biggest, single, possible money gain you can make" for people aged between 45 and 70.
A qualifying year is a tax year in which you were either working and paying National Insurance contributions, receiving National Insurance credits or making voluntary National Insurance contributions . To be eligible for any State Pension, you typically need ten qualifying years.
