Massachusetts State Police announced that the New England Promotional Marketing donated more than $17,000 to the Vest-a-Dog in memory of state police K9 Frankie.Police said the money from NEPM was collected by selling 3,440 t-shirts and hoodies featuring Frankie. The funds will help Vest-a-Dog’s work to provide ballistic vests and safety gear to protect police dogs, according to officials.
State police said that Frankie was fatally shot while trying to apprehend a felon in Fitchburg on July 26, 2022. Soon after, Cheryl Orluk, a sales associate at NEPM, worked with the state police to create a design for T-shirts and sweatshirts honoring Frankie, officials said. They ultimately raised $17,210.In addition to the vests, Vest-a-Dog will use the money to purchase crates built to transport dogs injured in the line of duty by medical helicopter, police said.
The Massachusetts State Police, NEPM officials and Vest-a-Dog representatives gathered for a check presentation.
