The former rugby player issued an update during an interview on Good Morning Britain
Former Leeds Rhino star Matthew Syron has said he is ‘hopeful’ he will be able to regain his sight after a horrifying city centre glass attack left the rugby player blind.
Mr Syron lost vision in both of his eyes following the attack. “I’ve got no lenses in my eyes, I’ve got a lot of damage and a lot of scarring,” he told GMB hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh, who were visibly emotional during the interview.“I’ve got a buckle on my right eye which squeezes the eyeball and makes my eyes water constantly, day and night,” he said. But there is some hope that the former rugby player will be able to regain his sight, after a recent appointment with his surgeon.
Gareth Dean was told he will serve an extended sentence of 15 years and eight months, consisting of a custodial term of 10 years and eight months and an extended licence period of five years. He will have to serve two thirds of the sentence in custody before going before the Parole Board who will determine if he is safe to be released.
