The inside track on the football stories that matter
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers should be wary about what he says to the press after their 7-1 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday ., ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes the 51-year-old’s comments about ‘not fearing anyone’ after their 5-0 win over Slovan Bratislava contributed to their 7-1 humbling at the hands of Dortmund.
The defeat marks the third time in the past eight seasons Celtic have shipped seven goals in Europe’s elite club competition – losing 7-1 to PSG in 2017-16 and 7-0 to Barcelona in 2016-17.Rodgers has never made it to the Champions League knock-out rounds as Celtic manager, an unwanted record he will no doubt have an eye on as the Glasgow club continue to dominate domestically.
