This new game from the National Gallery of Art will keep culture hounds guessing.
Designed as a fun way to let art geeks explore the NGA’s vast collection, Artle gives players a different game every day. Players are shown a work chosen from among the gallery’s 155,000 works by 15,000 artists. The player gets a chance to guess the artist. If incorrect, the game displays a second work of art by the same artist, and so on until four works by the same artist have been revealed. If the player does not guess the artist correctly after four attempts, the name is revealed.
Artle is a great way to explore the NGA’s vast trove of paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, decorative arts and more. Once an artist’s name is revealed, the player can click links to detailed overviews of the works of art to learn more. The National Gallery of Art, located on the National Mall in Washington, DC, is free to the public. Established in 1937 for the American people, the core collection includes major works of art donated by prominent collectors. The Gallery's campus includes the neoclassical West Building designed by John Russell Pope, the I.M. Pei-designed modern East Building, and the 6.1-acre Sculpture Garden. It is one of the largest museums in North America.
