Edith Johnson, M.M.A.T.A’s singer whose voice is reminiscent of Haley Williams was browsing YouTube when Ada and Téa’s YouTube video callout for a lead singer popped up on her feed. “We have the YouTube algorithm to thank for our band,” Ada says with a smirk. Edith, 20, agrees. “Ada made a video. I saw Ada's [post] on my YouTube homepage. I was just on YouTube and I opened my app and it was the first recommended video, which is crazy,” she says.
“Feel A Thing” throws you off sounding like an arcade of sorts, saturated with playful punk rock and electric energy. Catchy, lyrical but also fun. It’s like one of those songs you can see as the opening tune to a cute teen-com on Netflix. Following up behind it, we get “Mapped Out,” which immediately lets me know there is a clear through-line their EP is following, a nod to their focus on creating a cohesive project.
