In a new interview, Rick and Morty’s creative team opens up about newcomers Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, who now voice the show’s titular role.
The new voices behind Rick and Morty’s titular duo sound so uncannily similar to their old selves that it almost seemed like Adult Swim might have simply recreated Justin Roiland’s voice using artificial intelligence. It turns out, though, that they’re just two relatively unknown voice actors who — much like Kevin “It’s-a me” Afghani — have landed roles of a lifetime.
Because the internet has always been teeming with people certain they can do spot-on impressions of the show’s characters, Marder assumed that their six-month-long search for a new Rick and Morty — both of whom Roiland previously voiced — would be a bit easier. What they found, though, was that while many hopefuls were able to do characters like Rick in fits and starts, they struggled to inhabit him more casually.
