Jordi Artal’s father worked as a systems administrator at the University of Toronto and, growing up, Jordi had access to some very advanced computers. He soon developed an aptitude for tech and, when the PC boom hit, he admits he was already infatuated. He set up his own computer consulting business while in college and, eventually, joined a small startup in Toronto. When his boss, who was based in Silicon Valley, joined another startup, he asked Artal to come and work for him in California.
“When the company was sold, I was burned out and knew it was time to leave. The destination in my mind was clear: Barcelona, where my family was,” he says.IMAGE COURTESY Greg Gladman“There was absolutely no plan to cook or open a restaurant – that came later,” he adds.
