“I feel like we’re trampling on parental rights when we’re not including parents more transparently in the conversation,” she said. During Wednesday’s meeting, Steven Pearce, with the Citizens Commission of Human Rights, urged lawmakers to vote against the bill. The letter goes on to tell lawmakers how the bill would help reduce the stigma surrounding mental illnesses and create a more supportive and inclusive school environment, adding “the long-term benefits far outweigh the initial investment, though we would ask the State to support districts in these efforts through an increase to the Base Student Allocation .”
