The question around police being able to attend Pride celebrations has been a hot debate for some time now

Merseyside Police has defended its force’s decision to take part in the city’s March with Pride. This weekend sees the return of the annual Pride celebrations and for the first time, the festivities are being held over several days. The event will see thousands flood the streets with rainbow colours , sparkles and glam, holding posters and banners, as people stand against bigotry and hatred.

Paul McGowan, the national chairperson of LGBT+ Socialists and also the co-founder of Reclaim Pride Liverpool, said: “The LGBT+ community has had a troubled past, and present with the police. 'This problem is even worse when we look at the treatment and targeting of LGBT+ people with multiple intersectionalities , like LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees, queer trans and intersex people of colour and more.
