October could be warmer than anticipated
Met Office forecasters have predicted we could be in for a spell of warmer weather this autumn. The government agency's latest forecast comes after temperatures reached 30C in some areas of the UK during the recent mini heatwave.
For the next seven days, forecasters say temperatures are set to range from highs of 19C on Tuesday, September 19, down to lows of 15C on Friday, September 22. But looking further ahead, the most recent long-range forecast suggests October could be a warmer month than expected. The UK long-range forecast for Monday, October 2 to Monday, October 16, states: "Confidence in the general trend during early October is low. It looks like there is an increased chance of more settled conditions developing, but this doesn't rule out spells of more changeable weather within this. Overall, temperatures are more likely to be above average than below, with an increased chance compared with normal of some warm spells, but also some cooler nights.
This week there will also be changeable weather in Nottingham, with thunder storms forecast to hit at 1pm on Monday, September 18. Heavy rain is then expected across Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs of 19 and 18C respectively on these days. The rest of the week looks brighter, however, with sunny spells throughout Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with highs of 17C, 15C and 16C on these days.
